Now Israel went out to meet the Philistines in battle and camped beside Ebenezer while the Philistines camped in Aphek.(nasb) 1Sa 4:1 Et factum est in diebus illis, convenerunt Philisthiim in pugnam: et egressus est Israël obviam Philisthiim in prælium, et castrametatus est juxta lapidem Adjutorii. Porro Philisthiim venerunt in Aphec,(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:1 Y la palabra de Samuel llegaba a todo Israel. When the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines who killed about four thousand men on the battlefield.(nasb) 1Sa 4:2 et instruxerunt aciem contra Israël. And when they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:3 ============ 1Sa 4:3 When the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies."(nasb) 1Sa 4:3 Et reversus est populus ad castra: dixeruntque majores natu de Israël: Quare percussit nos Dominus hodie coram Philisthiim? afferamus ad nos de Silo arcam fœderis Domini, et veniat in medium nostri, ut salvet nos de manu inimicorum nostrorum.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:3 Y cuando el pueblo volvió al campamento, los ancianos de Israel dijeron: ¿Por qué nos ha herido hoy Jehová delante de los filisteos? Laßt uns zu uns nehmen die Lade des Bundes des HERRN von Silo und laßt sie unter uns kommen, daß sie uns helfe von der Hand unsrer Feinde.(D) 1Sa 4:3 καὶ ἦλθεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν καὶ εἶπαν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ισραηλ κατὰ τί ἔπταισεν ἡμᾶς κύριος σήμερον ἐνώπιον ἀλλοφύλων λάβωμεν τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐκ Σηλωμ καὶ ἐξελθέτω ἐν μέσῳ ἡμῶν καὶ σώσει ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν(lxx) 1Sa 4:3 And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:4 ============ 1Sa 4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh, and from there they carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts who sits above the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.(nasb) 1Sa 4:4 Misit ergo populus in Silo, et tulerunt inde arcam fœderis Domini exercituum sedentis super cherubim: erantque duo filii Heli cum arca fœderis Dei, Ophni et Phinees.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:4 Y envió el pueblo a Silo, y trajeron de allá el arca del pacto de Jehová de los ejércitos, que estaba [entre] los querubines; y los dos hijos de Elí, Ofni y Finees, estaban allí con el arca del pacto de Dios.(E) 1 Samuel 4:4 Le peuple envoya à Silo, d'où l'on apporta l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel des armées qui siège entre les chérubins. Und es waren da die zwei Söhne Elis mit der Lade des Bundes Gottes, Hophni und Pinehas.(D) 1Sa 4:4 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς Σηλωμ καὶ αἴρουσιν ἐκεῖθεν τὴν κιβωτὸν κυρίου καθημένου χερουβιμ καὶ ἀμφότεροι οἱ υἱοὶ Ηλι μετὰ τῆς κιβωτοῦ Οφνι καὶ Φινεες(lxx) 1Sa 4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:5 ============ 1Sa 4:5 As the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth resounded.(nasb) 1Sa 4:5 Cumque venisset arca fœderis Domini in castra, vociferatus est omnis Israël clamore grandi, et personuit terra.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:5 Y aconteció que, como el arca del pacto de Jehová vino al campamento, todo Israel gritó con tan grande júbilo, que la tierra tembló.(E) 1 Samuel 4:5 Lorsque l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel entra dans le camp, tout Israël poussa de grands cris de joie, et la terre en fut ébranlée.(F) 1Sa 4:5 Und da die Lade des Bundes des HERRN ins Lager kam, jauchzte das ganze Israel mit großem Jauchzen, daß die Erde erschallte.(D) 1Sa 4:5 καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς ἦλθεν κιβωτὸς κυρίου εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν καὶ ἀνέκραξεν πᾶς Ισραηλ φωνῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ ἤχησεν ἡ γῆ(lxx) 1Sa 4:5 And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:6 ============ 1Sa 4:6 When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" Then they understood that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp.(nasb) 1Sa 4:6 Et audierunt Philisthiim vocem clamoris, dixeruntque: Quænam est hæc vox clamoris magni in castris Hebræorum? Et cognoverunt quod arca Domini venisset in castra.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:6 Y cuando los filisteos oyeron la voz de júbilo, dijeron: ¿Qué voz de gran júbilo es ésta en el campamento de los hebreos? Y supieron que el arca de Jehová había venido al campamento.(E) 1 Samuel 4:6 Le retentissement de ces cris fut entendu des Philistins, et ils dirent: Que signifient ces grands cris qui retentissent dans le camp des Hébreux? Et ils apprirent que l'arche de l'Eternel était arrivée au camp.(F) 1Sa 4:6 Da aber die Philister hörten das Geschrei solches Jauchzens, sprachen sie: Was ist das Geschrei solches großen Jauchzens in der Hebräer Lager? Und da sie erfuhren, daß die Lade des HERRN ins Lager gekommen wäre,(D) 1Sa 4:6 καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι τῆς κραυγῆς καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι τίς ἡ κραυγὴ ἡ μεγάλη αὕτη ἐν παρεμβολῇ τῶν Εβραίων καὶ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι κιβωτὸς κυρίου ἥκει εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν(lxx) 1Sa 4:6 Now when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the sound of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" Then they understood that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:7 ============ 1Sa 4:7 The Philistines were afraid, for they said, "God has come into the camp." And they said, "Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before.(nasb) 1Sa 4:7 Timueruntque Philisthiim, dicentes: Venit Deus in castra. Et ingemuerunt, dicentes:(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:7 Y los filisteos tuvieron miedo, porque decían: Dios ha venido al campamento. Y dijeron: ¡Ay de nosotros! pues antes de ahora no fue así.(E) 1 Samuel 4:7 Les Philistins eurent peur, parce qu'ils crurent que Dieu était venu dans le camp. Malheur à nous! dirent-ils, car il n'en a pas été ainsi jusqu'à présent.(F) 1Sa 4:7 fürchteten sie sich und sprachen: Gott ist ins Lager gekommen; und sprachen weiter: Wehe uns! denn es ist zuvor nicht also gestanden.(D) 1Sa 4:7 καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι καὶ εἶπον οὗτοι οἱ θεοὶ ἥκασιν πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν οὐαὶ ἡμῖν ἐξελοῦ ἡμᾶς κύριε σήμερον ὅτι οὐ γέγονεν τοιαύτη ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην(lxx) 1Sa 4:7 So the Philistines were afraid, for they said, "God has come into the camp!" And they said, "Woe to us! For such a thing has never happened before.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:8 ============ 1Sa 4:8 Woe to us! Who shall deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who smote the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.(nasb) 1Sa 4:8 Væ nobis: non enim fuit tanta exultatio heri et nudiustertius: væ nobis. Quis nos salvabit de manu deorum sublimium istorum? hi sunt dii, qui percusserunt Ægyptum omni plaga in deserto.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:8 ¡Ay de nosotros! ¿Quién nos librará de las manos de estos Dioses fuertes? Éstos [son] los Dioses que hirieron a Egipto con toda [clase de] plaga en el desierto.(E) 1 Samuel 4:8 Malheur à nous! Qui nous délivrera de la main de ces dieux puissants? Ce sont ces dieux qui ont frappé les Egyptiens de toutes sortes de plaies dans le désert.(F) 1Sa 4:8 Wehe uns! Wer will uns erretten von der Hand dieser mächtigen Götter, die Ägypten schlugen mit allerlei Plage in der Wüste.(D) 1Sa 4:8 οὐαὶ ἡμῖν τίς ἐξελεῖται ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν θεῶν τῶν στερεῶν τούτων οὗτοι οἱ θεοὶ οἱ πατάξαντες τὴν Αἴγυπτον ἐν πάσῃ πληγῇ καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ(lxx) 1Sa 4:8 Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:9 ============ 1Sa 4:9 Take courage and be men, O Philistines, or you will become slaves to the Hebrews, as they have been slaves to you; therefore, be men and fight."(nasb) 1Sa 4:9 Confortamini, et estote viri, Philisthiim, ne serviatis Hebræis, sicut et illi servierunt vobis: confortamini, et bellate.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:9 Esforzaos, oh filisteos, y sed hombres, para que no sirváis a los hebreos, como ellos os han servido a vosotros: sed hombres, y pelead.(E) 1 Samuel 4:9 Fortifiez-vous et soyez des hommes, Philistins, de peur que vous ne soyez asservis aux Hébreux comme ils vous ont été asservis; soyez des hommes et combattez!(F) 1Sa 4:9 So seid nun getrost ihr Männer, ihr Philister, daß ihr nicht dienen müßt den Hebräern, wie sie euch gedient haben! Seid Männer und streitet!(D) 1Sa 4:9 κραταιοῦσθε καὶ γίνεσθε εἰς ἄνδρας ἀλλόφυλοι μήποτε δουλεύσητε τοῖς Εβραίοις καθὼς ἐδούλευσαν ἡμῖν καὶ ἔσεσθε εἰς ἄνδρας καὶ πολεμήσατε αὐτούς(lxx) 1Sa 4:9 Be strong and conduct yourselves like men, you Philistines, that you do not become servants of the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Conduct yourselves like men, and fight!"(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:10 ============ 1Sa 4:10 So the Philistines fought and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent; and the slaughter was very great, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers.(nasb) 1Sa 4:10 Pugnaverunt ergo Philisthiim, et cæsus est Israël, et fugit unusquisque in tabernaculum suum: et facta est plaga magna nimis, et ceciderunt de Israël triginta millia peditum.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:10 Pelearon, pues, los filisteos, e Israel fue vencido; y huyeron, cada cual a su tienda, y fue hecha muy grande mortandad, pues cayeron de Israel treinta mil hombres de a pie.(E) 1 Samuel 4:10 Les Philistins livrèrent bataille, et Israël fut battu. So the man came to tell it in the city, and all the city cried out.(nasb) 1Sa 4:13 Cumque ille venisset, Heli sedebat super sellam contra viam spectans. Erat enim cor ejus pavens pro arca Dei. Vir autem ille postquam ingressus est, nuntiavit urbi: et ululavit omnis civitas.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:13 Y cuando llegó, he aquí Elí que estaba sentado en una silla vigilando junto al camino; porque su corazón estaba temblando por causa del arca de Dios. Und da der Mann in die Stadt kam, sagte er's an, und die ganze Stadt schrie.(D) 1Sa 4:13 καὶ ἦλθεν καὶ ἰδοὺ Ηλι ἐκάθητο ἐπὶ τοῦ δίφρου παρὰ τὴν πύλην σκοπεύων τὴν ὁδόν ὅτι ἦν ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ ἐξεστηκυῖα περὶ τῆς κιβωτοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἀπαγγεῖλαι καὶ ἀνεβόησεν ἡ πόλις(lxx) 1Sa 4:13 Now when he came, there was Eli, sitting on a seat by the wayside watching, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city and told it, all the city cried out.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 4:14 ============ 1Sa 4:14 When Eli heard the noise of the outcry, he said, "What does the noise of this commotion mean?" Then the man came hurriedly and told Eli.(nasb) 1Sa 4:14 Et audivit Heli sonitum clamoris, dixitque: Quis est hic sonitus tumultus hujus? At ille festinavit, et venit, et nuntiavit Heli.(vulgate) 1 Samuel 4:14 Y cuando Elí oyó el estruendo de la gritería, dijo: ¿Qué estruendo de alboroto es éste? Y aquel hombre vino aprisa, y dio las nuevas a Elí.(E) 1 Samuel 4:14 Eli, entendant ces cris, dit: Que signifie ce tumulte? Da kam der Mann eilend und sagte es Eli an.(D) 1Sa 4:14 καὶ ἤκουσεν Ηλι τὴν φωνὴν τῆς βοῆς καὶ εἶπεν τίς ἡ βοὴ τῆς φωνῆς ταύτης καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος σπεύσας εἰσῆλθεν καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ Ηλι(lxx) 1Sa 4:14 When Eli heard the noise of the outcry, he said, "What does the sound of this tumult mean?"
