Nevertheless David captured the stronghold of Zion (that is, the city of David).(nas) 1Ch 11:5 εἶπαν δὲ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ιεβους τῷ Δαυιδ οὐκ εἰσελεύσῃ ὧδε καὶ προκατελάβετο τὴν περιοχὴν Σιων αὕτη ἡ πόλις Δαυιδ (lxx) 1Ch 11:5 Dixeruntque qui habitabant in Jebus ad David: Non ingredieris huc. Porro David cepit arcem Sion, quæ est civitas David,(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 11:5 And the inhabitants of Iebus said to Dauid, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David).(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 11:6 ============ 1Ch 11:6 Now David had said, "Whoever strikes down a Jebusite first shall be chief and commander." Ascendit igitur primus Joab filius Sarviæ, et factus est princeps.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 11:6 And Dauid sayd, Whosoeuer smiteth the Iebusites first, shalbe the chiefe and captaine. Now there the Philistines were gathered for battle, and there was a piece of ground full of barley. And the people fled from the Philistines.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 11:14 ============ 1Ch 11:14 They took their stand in the midst of the plot and defended it, and struck down the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great victory.(nas) 1Ch 11:14 καὶ ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ τῆς μερίδος καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπάταξεν τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος σωτηρίαν μεγάλην (lxx) 1Ch 11:14 Hi steterunt in medio agri, et defenderunt eum: cumque percussissent Philisthæos, dedit Dominus salutem magnam populo suo.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 11:14 And they stood in the middes of the field, and saued it, and slewe the Philistims: so the Lord gaue a great victorie.(Geneva) 1Ch 11:14 Und sie traten mitten aufs Stück und erretteten es und schlugen die Philister; und der HERR gab großes Heil.(dhs) 1Ch 11:14 But they stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. Qui noluit, sed magis libavit illam Domino,(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 11:18 Then these three brake thorowe the hoste of the Philistims, and drewe water out of the wel of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and tooke it and brought it to Dauid: but Dauid would not drinke of it, but powred it for an oblation to the Lord,(Geneva) 1Ch 11:18 Da brachen die drei in der Philister Lager und schöpften Wasser aus dem Brunnen zu Bethlehem unter dem Tor und trugen's und brachten's zu David. Er aber wollte es nicht trinken, sondern goß es aus dem HERRN(dhs) 1Ch 11:18 So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 11:19 ============ 1Ch 11:19 and he said, "Be it far from me before my God that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives? For at the risk of their lives they brought it." Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.(nas) 1Ch 11:19 καὶ εἶπεν ἵλεώς μοι ὁ θεὸς τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο εἰ αἷμα ἀνδρῶν τούτων πίομαι ἐν ψυχαῖς αὐτῶν ὅτι ἐν ψυχαῖς αὐτῶν ἤνεγκαν αὐτό καὶ οὐκ ἐβούλετο πιεῖν αὐτό ταῦτα ἐποίησαν οἱ τρεῖς δυνατοί (lxx) 1Ch 11:19 dicens: Absit ut in conspectu Dei mei hoc faciam, et sanguinem istorum virorum bibam: quia in periculo animarum suarum attulerunt mihi aquam. Et ob hanc causam noluit bibere: hæc fecerunt tres robustissimi.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 11:19 And said, Let not my God suffer me to do this: should I drinke the blood of these mens liues? for they haue brought it with the ieopardie of their liues: therefore he would not drinke it: these things did these three mightie men.(Geneva) 1Ch 11:19 und sprach: Das lasse mein Gott fern von mir sein, daß ich solches tue und trinke das Blut dieser Männer in ihres Lebens Gefahr; denn sie haben's mit ihres Lebens Gefahr hergebracht! Darum wollte er's nicht trinken. Das taten die drei Helden.(dhs) 1Ch 11:19 And he said, "Far be it from me, O my God, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy? For at the risk of their lives they brought it." Therefore he would not drink it.
