Today's Date: ======= Jonah 4:1 ============ Jon 4:1 But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry.(nasb) Jon 4:1 Et afflictus est Jonas afflictione magna, et iratus est:(vulgate) Jonás 4:1 Pero esto desagradó a Jonás en gran manera, y se enojó.(E) Jonas 4:1 Cela déplut fort à Jonas, et il fut irrité.(F) Jon 4:1 Das verdroß Jona gar sehr, und er ward zornig(D) Jon 4:1 καὶ ἐλυπήθη Ιωνας λύπην μεγάλην καὶ συνεχύθη(lxx) Jon 4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:2 ============ Jon 4:2 He prayed to the Lord and said, "Please Lord, was not this what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore in order to forestall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity.(nasb) Jon 4:2 et oravit ad Dominum, et dixit: Obsecro, Domine, numquid non hoc est verbum meum cum adhuc essem in terra mea? propter hoc præoccupavi ut fugerem in Tharsis: scio enim quia tu Deus clemens et misericors es, patiens et multæ miserationis, et ignoscens super malitia.(vulgate) Jonás 4:2 Y oró a Jehová, y dijo: Ahora, oh Jehová, ¿no es esto lo que yo decía estando aún en mi tierra? Por eso me precaví huyendo a Tarsis; porque yo sabía yo que tú [eres] Dios clemente y piadoso, lento para la ira, y grande en misericordia, y que te arrepientes del mal.(E) Jonas 4:2 Il implora l'Eternel, et il dit: Ah! Eternel, n'est-ce pas ce que je disais quand j'étais encore dans mon pays? C'est ce que je voulais prévenir en fuyant à Tarsis. Car je savais que tu es un Dieu compatissant et miséricordieux, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et qui te repens du mal.(F) Jon 4:2 und betete zum HERRN und sprach: Ach HERR, das ist's, was ich sagte, da ich noch in meinem Lande war; darum ich auch wollte zuvorkommen, zu fliehen gen Tharsis; denn ich weiß, daß du gnädig, barmherzig, langmütig und von großer Güte bist und läßt dich des Übels reuen.(D) Jon 4:2 καὶ προσεύξατο πρὸς κύριον καὶ εἶπεν ὦ κύριε οὐχ οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι μου ἔτι ὄντος μου ἐν τῇ γῇ μου διὰ τοῦτο προέφθασα τοῦ φυγεῖν εἰς Θαρσις διότι ἔγνων ὅτι σὺ ἐλεήμων καὶ οἰκτίρμων μακρόθυμος καὶ πολυέλεος καὶ μετανοῶν ἐπὶ ταῖς κακίαις(lxx) Jon 4:2 So he prayed to the Lord, and said, "Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:3 ============ Jon 4:3 Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for death is better to me than life."(nasb) Jon 4:3 Et nunc, Domine, tolle, quæso, animam meam a me, quia melior est mihi mors quam vita.(vulgate) Jonás 4:3 Ahora pues, oh Jehová, te ruego que me quites la vida; porque mejor me [es] la muerte que la vida.(E) Jonas 4:3 Maintenant, Eternel, prends-moi donc la vie, car la mort m'est préférable à la vie.(F) Jon 4:3 So nimm doch nun, HERR, meine Seele von mir; denn ich wollte lieber tot sein als leben.(D) Jon 4:3 καὶ νῦν δέσποτα κύριε λαβὲ τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ὅτι καλὸν τὸ ἀποθανεῖν με ἢ ζῆν με(lxx) Jon 4:3 Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!"(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:4 ============ Jon 4:4 The Lord said, "Do you have good reason to be angry?"(nasb) Jon 4:4 Et dixit Dominus: Putasne bene irasceris tu?(vulgate) Jonás 4:4 Y Jehová le dijo: ¿Haces tú bien en enojarte [tanto]?(E) Jonas 4:4 L'Eternel répondit: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter?(F) Jon 4:4 Aber der HERR sprach: Meinst du, daß du billig zürnst?(D) Jon 4:4 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ιωναν εἰ σφόδρα λελύπησαι σύ(lxx) Jon 4:4 Then the Lord said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:5 ============ Jon 4:5 Then Jonah went out from the city and sat east of it. There he made a shelter for himself and sat under it in the shade until he could see what would happen in the city.(nasb) Jon 4:5 Et egressus est Jonas de civitate, et sedit contra orientem civitatis: et fecit sibimet umbraculum ibi, et sedebat subter illud in umbra, donec videret quid accideret civitati.(vulgate) Jonás 4:5 Entonces salió Jonás de la ciudad, y asentó hacia el oriente de la ciudad, y se hizo allí un cobertizo, y se sentó debajo de él a la sombra, hasta ver qué sería de la ciudad.(E) Jonas 4:5 Et Jonas sortit de la ville, et s'assit à l'orient de la ville, Là il se fit une cabane, et s'y tint à l'ombre, jusqu'à ce qu'il vît ce qui arriverait dans la ville.(F) Jon 4:5 Und Jona ging zur Stadt hinaus und setzte sich morgenwärts von der Stadt und machte sich daselbst eine Hütte; darunter setzte er sich in den Schatten, bis er sähe, was der Stadt widerfahren würde.(D) Jon 4:5 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ιωνας ἐκ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἀπέναντι τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ ἐκεῖ σκηνὴν καὶ ἐκάθητο ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς ἐν σκιᾷ ἕως οὗ ἀπίδῃ τί ἔσται τῇ πόλει(lxx) Jon 4:5 So Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:6 ============ Jon 4:6 So the Lord God appointed a plant and it grew up over Jonah to be a shade over his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Jonah was extremely happy about the plant.(nasb) Jon 4:6 Et præparavit Dominus Deus hederam, et ascendit super caput Jonæ, ut esset umbra super caput ejus, et protegeret eum (laboraverat enim): et lætatus est Jonas super hedera lætitia magna.(vulgate) Jonás 4:6 Y preparó Jehová Dios una calabacera, la cual creció sobre Jonás para que hiciese sombra sobre su cabeza, y le librase de su mal; y Jonás se alegró grandemente por la calabacera.(E) Jonas 4:6 L'Eternel Dieu fit croître un ricin, qui s'éleva au-dessus de Jonas, pour donner de l'ombre sur sa tête et pour lui ôter son irritation. Jonas éprouva une grande joie à cause de ce ricin.(F) Jon 4:6 Gott der HERR aber verschaffte einen Rizinus, der wuchs über Jona, daß er Schatten gäbe über sein Haupt und errettete ihn von seinem Übel; und Jona freute sich sehr über den Rizinus.(D) Jon 4:6 καὶ προσέταξεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς κολοκύνθῃ καὶ ἀνέβη ὑπὲρ κεφαλῆς τοῦ Ιωνα τοῦ εἶναι σκιὰν ὑπεράνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τοῦ σκιάζειν αὐτῷ ἀπὸ τῶν κακῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐχάρη Ιωνας ἐπὶ τῇ κολοκύνθῃ χαρὰν μεγάλην(lxx) Jon 4:6 And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:7 ============ Jon 4:7 But God appointed a worm when dawn came the next day and it attacked the plant and it withered.(nasb) Jon 4:7 Et paravit Deus vermen ascensu diluculi in crastinum: et percussit hederam, et exaruit.(vulgate) Jonás 4:7 Mas Dios preparó un gusano al venir la mañana del día siguiente, el cual hirió a la calabacera, y se secó.(E) Jonas 4:7 Mais le lendemain, à l'aurore, Dieu fit venir un ver qui piqua le ricin, et le ricin sécha.(F) Jon 4:7 Aber Gott verschaffte einen Wurm des Morgens, da die Morgenröte anbrach; der stach den Rizinus, daß er verdorrte.(D) Jon 4:7 καὶ προσέταξεν ὁ θεὸς σκώληκι ἑωθινῇ τῇ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν κολόκυνθαν καὶ ἀπεξηράνθη(lxx) Jon 4:7 But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:8 ============ Jon 4:8 When the sun came up God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head so that he became faint and begged with all his soul to die, saying, "Death is better to me than life."(nasb) Jon 4:8 Et cum ortus fuisset sol, præcepit Dominus vento calido et urenti: et percussit sol super caput Jonæ, et æstuabat: et petivit animæ suæ ut moreretur, et dixit: Melius est mihi mori quam vivere.(vulgate) Jonás 4:8 Y aconteció que al salir el sol, preparó Dios un recio viento solano; y el sol hirió a Jonás en la cabeza, y desmayaba; y deseaba la muerte, diciendo: Mejor [sería] para mí la muerte que la vida.(E) Jonas 4:8 Au lever du soleil, Dieu fit souffler un vent chaud d'orient, et le soleil frappa la tête de Jonas, au point qu'il tomba en défaillance. Il demanda la mort, et dit: La mort m'est préférable à la vie.(F) Jon 4:8 Als aber die Sonne aufgegangen war, verschaffte Gott einen dürren Ostwind; und die Sonne stach Jona auf den Kopf, daß er matt ward. Da wünschte er seiner Seele den Tod und sprach: Ich wollte lieber tot sein als leben.(D) Jon 4:8 καὶ ἐγένετο ἅμα τῷ ἀνατεῖλαι τὸν ἥλιον καὶ προσέταξεν ὁ θεὸς πνεύματι καύσωνος συγκαίοντι καὶ ἐπάταξεν ὁ ἥλιος ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ιωνα καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν καὶ ἀπελέγετο τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν καλόν μοι ἀποθανεῖν με ἢ ζῆν(lxx) Jon 4:8 And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:9 ============ Jon 4:9 Then God said to Jonah," Do you have good reason to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "I have good reason to be angry, even to death."(nasb) Jon 4:9 Et dixit Dominus ad Jonam: Putasne bene irasceris tu super hedera? Et dixit: Bene irascor ego usque ad mortem.(vulgate) Jonás 4:9 Entonces dijo Dios a Jonás: ¿Tanto te enojas por la calabacera? Y él respondió: Mucho me enojo, hasta la muerte.(E) Jonas 4:9 Dieu dit à Jonas: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter à cause du ricin? Il répondit: Je fais bien de m'irriter jusqu'à la mort.(F) Jon 4:9 Da sprach Gott zu Jona: Meinst du, daß du billig zürnst um den Rizinus? Und er sprach: Billig zürne ich bis an den Tod.(D) Jon 4:9 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ιωναν εἰ σφόδρα λελύπησαι σὺ ἐπὶ τῇ κολοκύνθῃ καὶ εἶπεν σφόδρα λελύπημαι ἐγὼ ἕως θανάτου(lxx) Jon 4:9 Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!"(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:10 ============ Jon 4:10 Then the Lord said, "You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight.(nasb) Jon 4:10 Et dixit Dominus: Tu doles super hederam in qua non laborasti, neque fecisti ut cresceret; quæ sub una nocte nata est, et sub una nocte periit:(vulgate) Jonás 4:10 Y dijo Jehová: Tuviste tú lástima de la calabacera, en la cual no trabajaste, ni tú la hiciste crecer; que en espacio de una noche nació, y en espacio de otra noche pereció:(E) Jonas 4:10 Et l'Eternel dit: Tu as pitié du ricin qui ne t'a coûté aucune peine et que tu n'as pas fait croître, qui est né dans une nuit et qui a péri dans une nuit.(F) Jon 4:10 Und der HERR sprach: Dich jammert des Rizinus, daran du nicht gearbeitet hast, hast ihn auch nicht aufgezogen, welcher in einer Nacht ward und in einer Nacht verdarb;(D) Jon 4:10 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος σὺ ἐφείσω ὑπὲρ τῆς κολοκύνθης ὑπὲρ ἧς οὐκ ἐκακοπάθησας ἐπ᾽ αὐτὴν καὶ οὐκ ἐξέθρεψας αὐτήν ἣ ἐγενήθη ὑπὸ νύκτα καὶ ὑπὸ νύκτα ἀπώλετο(lxx) Jon 4:10 But the Lord said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 4:11 ============ Jon 4:11 Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?"(nasb) Jon 4:11 et ego non parcam Ninive, civitati magnæ, in qua sunt plus quam centum viginti millia hominum qui nesciunt quid sit inter dexteram et sinistram suam, et jumenta multa?(vulgate) Jonás 4:11 ¿Y no tendré yo piedad de Nínive, aquella grande ciudad donde hay más de ciento veinte mil personas que no pueden discernir entre su mano derecha y su mano izquierda, y muchos animales?(E) Jonas 4:11 Et moi, je n'aurais pas pitié de Ninive, la grande ville, dans laquelle se trouvent plus de cent vingt mille hommes qui ne savent pas distinguer leur droite de leur gauche, et des animaux en grand nombre!(F) Jon 4:11 und mich sollte nicht jammern Ninives, solcher großen Stadt, in welcher sind mehr denn hundert und zwanzigtausend Menschen, die nicht wissen Unterschied, was rechts oder links ist, dazu auch viele Tiere?(D) Jon 4:11 ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ φείσομαι ὑπὲρ Νινευη τῆς πόλεως τῆς μεγάλης ἐν ᾗ κατοικοῦσιν πλείους ἢ δώδεκα μυριάδες ἀνθρώπων οἵτινες οὐκ ἔγνωσαν δεξιὰν αὐτῶν ἢ ἀριστερὰν αὐτῶν καὶ κτήνη πολλά(lxx) Jon 4:11 And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left--and much livestock?"(nkjv) top of the page
