lucerna impiorum peccatum.(vulgate) 4 ׃21 רוּם־עֵ֭ינַיִם וּרְחַב־לֵ֑ב נִ֖ר רְשָׁעִ֣ים חַטָּֽאת׃ Proverbs Pro 21:4 Hoffärtige Augen und stolzer Mut, die Leuchte der Gottlosen, ist Sünde.(dhs) Pro 21:4 A haughty look, a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked are sin.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:5 ============ Pro 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, But everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.(nas) Pro 21:5 LXX differs (lxx) Pro 21:5 Cogitationes robusti semper in abundantia; omnis autem piger semper in egestate est.]~(vulgate) 5 ׃21 מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת חָ֭רוּץ אַךְ־לְמוֹתָ֑ר וְכָל־אָ֝֗ץ אַךְ־לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃ Proverbs Pro 21:5 Die Anschläge eines Emsigen bringen Überfluß; wer aber allzu rasch ist, dem wird's mangeln.(dhs) Pro 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:6 ============ Pro 21:6 The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue Is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death.(nas) Pro 21:6 ὁ ἐνεργῶν θησαυρίσματα γλώσσῃ ψευδεῖ μάταια διώκει ἐπὶ παγίδας θανάτου (lxx) Pro 21:6 [Qui congregat thesauros lingua mendacii vanus et excors est, et impingetur ad laqueos mortis.(vulgate) 6 ׃21 פֹּ֣עַל א֭וֹצָרוֹת בִּלְשׁ֣וֹן שָׁ֑קֶר הֶ֥בֶל נִ֝דָּ֗ף מְבַקְשֵׁי־מָֽוֶת׃ Proverbs Pro 21:6 Wer Schätze sammelt mit Lügen, der wird fehlgehen und ist unter denen, die den Tod suchen.(dhs) Pro 21:6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:7 ============ Pro 21:7 The violence of the wicked will drag them away, Because they refuse to act with justice.(nas) Pro 21:7 ὄλεθρος ἀσεβέσιν ἐπιξενωθήσεται οὐ γὰρ βούλονται πράσσειν τὰ δίκαια (lxx) Pro 21:7 Rapinæ impiorum detrahent eos, quia noluerunt facere judicium.(vulgate) 7 ׃21 שֹׁד־רְשָׁעִ֥ים יְגוֹרֵ֑ם כִּ֥י מֵ֝אֲנ֗וּ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ Proverbs Pro 21:7 Der Gottlosen Rauben wird sie erschrecken; denn sie wollten nicht tun, was recht war.(dhs) Pro 21:7 The violence of the wicked will destroy them, Because they refuse to do justice.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:8 ============ Pro 21:8 The way of a guilty man is crooked, But as for the pure, his conduct is upright.(nas) Pro 21:8 πρὸς τοὺς σκολιοὺς σκολιὰς ὁδοὺς ἀποστέλλει ὁ θεός ἁγνὰ γὰρ καὶ ὀρθὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ (lxx) Pro 21:8 Perversa via viri aliena est; qui autem mundus est, rectum opus ejus.(vulgate) 8 ׃21 הֲפַכְפַּ֬ךְ דֶּ֣רֶךְ אִ֣ישׁ וָזָ֑ר וְ֝זַ֗ךְ יָשָׁ֥ר פָּעֳלֽוֹ׃ Proverbs Pro 21:8 Wer mit Schuld beladen ist, geht krumme Wege; wer aber rein ist, des Werk ist recht.(dhs) Pro 21:8 The way of a guilty man is perverse; His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.(nas) Pro 21:10 ψυχὴ ἀσεβοῦς οὐκ ἐλεηθήσεται ὑπ᾽ οὐδενὸς τῶν ἀνθρώπων (lxx) Pro 21:10 Anima impii desiderat malum: non miserebitur proximo suo.(vulgate) 10 ׃21 נֶ֣פֶשׁ רָ֭שָׁע אִוְּתָה־רָ֑ע לֹא־יֻחַ֖ן בְּעֵינָ֣יו רֵעֵֽהוּ׃ Proverbs Pro 21:10 Die Seele des Gottlosen wünscht Arges und gönnt seinem Nächsten nichts.(dhs) Pro 21:10 The soul of the wicked desires evil; His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:11 ============ Pro 21:11 When the scoffer is punished, the naive becomes wise; But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.(nas) Pro 21:11 ζημιουμένου ἀκολάστου πανουργότερος γίνεται ὁ ἄκακος συνίων δὲ σοφὸς δέξεται γνῶσιν (lxx) Pro 21:11 Mulctato pestilente, sapientior erit parvulus, et si sectetur sapientem, sumet scientiam.(vulgate) 11 ׃21 בַּעְנָשׁ־לֵ֭ץ יֶחְכַּם־פֶּ֑תִי וּבְהַשְׂכִּ֥יל לְ֝חָכָ֗ם יִקַּח־דָּֽעַת׃ Proverbs Pro 21:11 Wenn der Spötter gestraft wird, so werden die Unvernünftigen Weise; und wenn man einen Weisen unterrichtet, so wird er vernünftig.(dhs) Pro 21:11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:12 ============ Pro 21:12 The righteous one considers the house of the wicked, Turning the wicked to ruin.(nas) Pro 21:12 συνίει δίκαιος καρδίας ἀσεβῶν καὶ φαυλίζει ἀσεβεῖς ἐν κακοῖς (lxx) Pro 21:12 Excogitat justus de domo impii, ut detrahat impios a malo.]~(vulgate) 12 ׃21 מַשְׂכִּ֣יל צַ֭דִּיק לְבֵ֣ית רָשָׁ֑ע מְסַלֵּ֖ף רְשָׁעִ֣ים לָרָֽע׃ Proverbs Pro 21:12 Der Gerechte hält sich weislich gegen des Gottlosen Haus; aber die Gottlosen denken nur Schaden zu tun.(dhs) Pro 21:12 The righteous God wisely considers the house of the wicked, Overthrowing the wicked for their wickedness.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:13 ============ Pro 21:13 He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be answered.(nas) Pro 21:13 ὃς φράσσει τὰ ὦτα τοῦ μὴ ἐπακοῦσαι ἀσθενοῦς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπικαλέσεται καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ εἰσακούων (lxx) Pro 21:13 [Qui obturat aurem suam ad clamorem pauperis, et ipse clamabit, et non exaudietur.(vulgate) 13 ׃21 אֹטֵ֣ם אָ֭זְנוֹ מִזַּעֲקַת־דָּ֑ל גַּֽם־ה֥וּא יִ֝קְרָ֗א וְלֹ֣א יֵעָנֶֽה׃ Proverbs Pro 21:13 Wer seine Ohren verstopft vor dem Schreien des Armen, der wird auch rufen, und nicht erhört werden.(dhs) Pro 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:14 ============ Pro 21:14 A gift in secret subdues anger, And a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.(nas) Pro 21:14 δόσις λάθριος ἀνατρέπει ὀργάς δώρων δὲ ὁ φειδόμενος θυμὸν ἐγείρει ἰσχυρόν (lxx) Pro 21:14 Munus absconditum extinguit iras, et donum in sinu indignationem maximam.(vulgate) 14 ׃21 מַתָּ֣ן בַּ֭סֵּתֶר יִכְפֶּה־אָ֑ף וְשֹׁ֥חַד בַּ֝חֵ֗ק חֵמָ֥ה עַזָּֽה׃ Proverbs Pro 21:14 Eine heimliche Gabe stillt den Zorn, und ein Geschenk im Schoß den heftigen Grimm.(dhs) Pro 21:14 A gift in secret pacifies anger, And a bribe behind the back, strong wrath.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:15 ============ Pro 21:15 The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous, But is terror to the workers of iniquity.(nas) Pro 21:15 εὐφροσύνη δικαίων ποιεῖν κρίμα ὅσιος δὲ ἀκάθαρτος παρὰ κακούργοις (lxx) Pro 21:15 Gaudium justo est facere judicium, et pavor operantibus iniquitatem.(vulgate) 15 ׃21 שִׂמְחָ֣ה לַ֭צַּדִּיק עֲשׂ֣וֹת מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝מְחִתָּ֗ה לְפֹ֣עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃ Proverbs Pro 21:15 Es ist dem Gerechten eine Freude, zu tun, was recht ist, aber eine Furcht den Übeltätern.(dhs) Pro 21:15 It is a joy for the just to do justice, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:16 ============ Pro 21:16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding Will rest in the assembly of the dead.(nas) Pro 21:16 ἀνὴρ πλανώμενος ἐξ ὁδοῦ δικαιοσύνης ἐν συναγωγῇ γιγάντων ἀναπαύσεται (lxx) Pro 21:16 Vir qui erraverit a via doctrinæ in cœtu gigantum commorabitur.(vulgate) 16 ׃21 אָדָ֗ם תּ֖[d]וֹעֶה מִדֶּ֣רֶךְ הַשְׂכֵּ֑ל בִּקְהַ֖ל רְפָאִ֣ים יָנֽוּחַ׃ Proverbs Pro 21:16 Ein Mensch, der vom Wege der Klugheit irrt, wird bleiben in der Toten Gemeinde.(dhs) Pro 21:16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding Will rest in the assembly of the dead.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:17 ============ Pro 21:17 He who loves pleasure will become a poor man; aber ein Narr verschlemmt es.(dhs) Pro 21:20 There is desirable treasure, And oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man squanders it.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:21 ============ Pro 21:21 He who pursues righteousness and loyalty Finds life, righteousness and honor.(nas) Pro 21:21 ὁδὸς δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἐλεημοσύνης εὑρήσει ζωὴν καὶ δόξαν (lxx) Pro 21:21 Qui sequitur justitiam et misericordiam inveniet vitam, justitiam, et gloriam.(vulgate) 21 ׃21 רֹ֭דֵף צְדָקָ֣ה וָחָ֑סֶד יִמְצָ֥א חַ֝יִּ֗ים צְדָקָ֥ה וְכָבֽוֹד׃ Proverbs Pro 21:21 Wer der Gerechtigkeit und Güte nachjagt, der findet Leben, Gerechtigkeit und Ehre.(dhs) Pro 21:21 He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:22 ============ Pro 21:22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty And brings down the stronghold in which they trust.(nas) Pro 21:22 πόλεις ὀχυρὰς ἐπέβη σοφὸς καὶ καθεῖλεν τὸ ὀχύρωμα ἐφ᾽ ᾧ ἐπεποίθεισαν οἱ ἀσεβεῖς (lxx) Pro 21:22 Civitatem fortium ascendit sapiens, et destruxit robur fiduciæ ejus.(vulgate) 22 ׃21 עִ֣יר גִּ֭בֹּרִים עָלָ֣ה חָכָ֑ם וַ֝יֹּ֗רֶד עֹ֣ז מִבְטֶחָֽה׃ Proverbs Pro 21:22 Ein Weiser gewinnt die Stadt der Starken und stürzt ihre Macht, darauf sie sich verläßt.(dhs) Pro 21:22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty, And brings down the trusted stronghold.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:23 ============ Pro 21:23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles.(nas) Pro 21:23 ὃς φυλάσσει τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν γλῶσσαν διατηρεῖ ἐκ θλίψεως τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ (lxx) Pro 21:23 Qui custodit os suum et linguam suam custodit ab angustiis animam suam.(vulgate) 23 ׃21 שֹׁמֵ֣ר פִּ֭יו וּלְשׁוֹנ֑וֹ שֹׁמֵ֖ר מִצָּר֣וֹת נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ Proverbs Pro 21:23 Wer seinen Mund und seine Zunge bewahrt, der bewahrt seine Seele vor Angst.(dhs) Pro 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:24 ============ Pro 21:24 "Proud,"" Haughty,"" Scoffer," are his names, Who acts with insolent pride.(nas) Pro 21:24 θρασὺς καὶ αὐθάδης καὶ ἀλαζὼν λοιμὸς καλεῖται ὃς δὲ μνησικακεῖ παράνομος (lxx) Pro 21:24 Superbus et arrogans vocatur indoctus, qui in ira operatur superbiam.(vulgate) 24 ׃21 זֵ֣ד יָ֭הִיר לֵ֣ץ שְׁמ֑וֹ ע֝וֹשֶׂ֗ה בְּעֶבְרַ֥ת זָדֽוֹן׃ Proverbs Pro 21:24 Der stolz und vermessen ist, heißt ein Spötter, der im Zorn Stolz beweist.(dhs) Pro 21:24 A proud and haughty man--"Scoffer" is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 21:25 ============ Pro 21:25 The desire of the sluggard puts him to death, For his hands refuse to work;(nas) Pro 21:25 ἐπιθυμίαι ὀκνηρὸν ἀποκτείνουσιν οὐ γὰρ προαιροῦνται αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ποιεῖν τι (lxx) Pro 21:25 Desideria occidunt pigrum: noluerunt enim quidquam manus ejus operari.(vulgate) 25 ׃21 תַּאֲוַ֣ת עָצֵ֣ל תְּמִיתֶ֑נּוּ כִּֽי־מֵאֲנ֖וּ יָדָ֣יו לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ Proverbs Pro 21:25 Der Faule stirbt über seinem Wünschen;
